Road excavated to replace damaged pipe

The area has now been cordoned off. Motorists should avoid the area and are advised to exercise extreme caution.

The damaged pipeline on the corner of Beyers Naudé Avenue and Du Plooy Street is still being attended to after the section of roadway was excavated following the collapse of a sewer pipe.

Emergency construction work is currently underway and motorists should avoid the area and are advised to exercise extreme caution.

When the Herald arrived on the scene at around 17:00, construction workers were busy cordoning off the area with danger tape and putting road signs in the street to assist motorists who were passing through the area.

“The duration of repairs work cannot be confirmed at this stage. The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation while the necessary repairs are being completed,” stated JB Marks Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.
