Although these movies are not traditional Christmas ones, it does not mean that holidays should only revolve around white snow-filled films – we are in South Africa, after all!

  1. The Amazing Maurice – Animation

Maurice is a streetwise ginger cat who comes up with a money-making scam by befriending a group of self-taught talking rats. When Maurice and the rodents meet a bookworm called Malicia, their little con soon goes down the drain. This movie is an animation with loads of witty humour, empathy, and a story that takes you on an enthralling journey with a couple of twists and turns along the way. The film stars Hugh Laurie, Emilia Clarke and Himesh Patel.

  1. Fast X – Action

The tenth instalment of The Fast and the Furious is jam-packed with action, cars and an explosive storyline. This edge-of-your-seat action movie series continues to push boundaries, and the tenth edition is a movie you cannot afford to miss. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his gang are ready to take on a new enemy, Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). Expect thrills and spills aplenty.

This video game adaptation also has numerous Easter Eggs, focusing on Nintendo Games, which ardent gamers should quickly recognise. Even if you are not the best gamer, this movie should keep you entertained through an entertaining and heart-warming storyline.

  1. 80 For Brady – Comedy/Real Life

This one is not your typical American Football movie, where the final touchdown wins the title in the dying seconds of the game. Instead, this unique movie, based on real-life events, is about four women in their 80s and their quest to see their hero, Tom Brady (quarterback), play in the Superbowl. An all-star cast includes Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Sally Field and Rita Moreno, with 200 years of combined acting experience. Tom Brady plays himself in this movie, adding an authentic touch. A wacky, interesting and insightful story of friendship and shared love for one of America’s biggest sporting stars.

  1. The Good House – Drama

“The Good House” is an adaptation of Ann Leary’s novel of the same name, which centres on the high-functioning alcoholic realtor, Hildy Good, played by Sigourney Weaver. Weaver does a fantastic job of playing the role of a woman who struggles to juggle her personal and professional life. There are also numerous twists and turns and a few secrets to keep viewers glued to their screens.
