Van Zyl stars at junior national championships

Jahnie van Zyl of the Riaan Venter Tennis Academy beat Morgan Jordaan in straight sets by 6–3, 6–3.

Jahnie van Zyl continued her excellent start to 2024 when she bagged the American Express Junior National Championships u.16 girls’ singles title in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, 26 March.

Van Zyl of the Riaan Venter Tennis Academy beat Morgan Jordaan in straight sets by 6–3, 6–3. This year’s event featured 64 players across all age groups – under-12, 14, 16, and 18.

Here are the top achievers from the Riaan Venter Tennis Academy at the American Express Junior National Championships:

· Reuben de Klerk: Runner-up in the u.18 Boys’ category. ·

Che Nel: Winner of the u.18 Girls’ doubles category.

· Hein Rootman and Christian Smith: Winner of the u.18 Boys’ doubles category.

· Ethan Pieter: Winner of the u.14 Boys doubles category.

· Juvan van Pletzen: Runner-up in the u.14 Boys’ doubles category.

· Xavier Victor: Runner-up in the u.12 Boys’ doubles gold category. · Tolamo Naphtaly: Winner of the Boys’ u.14 Doubles Gold category.

At the Free State Super 8 Tennis Tournament, numerous players of the Riaan Venter Tennis Academy performed superbly.

Reuben de Klerk won the Men’s Open, whilst Juvan van Pletzen and Tolamo Naphtaly achieved a runners-up position in the boys doubles u.14 category.
