The North-West University recently awarded the honorary degree Philosophiae Doctor (Honoris Causa) in Economic Sciences to professor Raymond Parsons.

This esteemed recognition highlights his remarkable contributions to academia, the NWU community and South African society.

Parsons is a professor at the NWU School of Business and Management and a Special Policy Advisor for Business Unity South Africa (BUSA).

“This is a great honour and I am very privileged that the university has seen to recognise me in this regard. I am very humbled by it. I am also very proud that I am here today, not only because of the university but because of many people among family, friends and colleagues who have helped me on this journey to bring me to this point,” Parsons said in an interview during the ceremony.

“We recognise his qualities in Academic brilliance, creator of the Policy Uncertainty Index, driving impactful research that benefits South Africa and elevates NWU. A key figure in the expansion of the NWU Business School’s influence and the promotion of excellence for its community. A distinguished career characterised by influential appointments, public engagements and transformative contributions to South African economic thinking. Prof. Parsons, your dedication inspires us all. Congratulations on this well-deserved honour,” the university said in a statement.
