Boskop Yacht Club hosts annual Open Regatta
Saturday gave steady conditions and fast sailing, while Sunday brought even stronger gusts that truly tested everyone’s skill and teamwork.
The Boskop Yacht Club was full of life this past weekend as it hosted its annual Open Regatta at the beautiful Boskop Dam. With summer just around the corner and a strong, steady wind sweeping across the water, the event was filled with excitement, challenge, and plenty of smiles.
More than 40 entries and 35 boats took to the water, creating an amazing sight. Sailors competed in a wonderful variety of classes — Dabchicks, Optimists, Lasers, Picos, Flying Dutchman, Darts, and J22s — bringing together both experienced sailors and those new to the sport. The wind kept sailors on their toes from start to finish.
Saturday gave steady conditions and fast sailing, while Sunday brought even stronger gusts that truly tested everyone’s skill and teamwork. Still, the sailors handled it brilliantly and filled the dam with colour, energy, and the sound of sails humming in the wind. Off the water, there was just as much fun. Good food, laughter, and the chance to meet new friends and share new experiences made the weekend feel truly special.
It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the spirit of sailing and supporting one another. As the regatta came to a close, prizes were awarded not only for great sailing, but also for perseverance and sportsmanship in tough conditions.
“We want to give a special thank you to all our club members who helped make this event possible — from those who managed races and safety, to everyone who helped with food, setup, and support throughout the weekend. Your hard work and dedication made all the difference,” said the club president.
