A 45-year-old man shot and killed his 40-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself in Tshing township, Venterdorp last Friday.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Maj. Pelenomi Makau, the woman was shot twice in the upper body and in the left hand before her husband committed suicide.
Makau says emergency services were called in and they certified the man dead on the scene. His wife, however, was still alive and was transported to the Ventersdorp Hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away on arrival.
According to Makau, the terrible incident was sparked by an argument at the couple’s home at about 23:00. The couple had come back from a nearby tavern.
“Police in Ventersdorp are investigating a case of murder and inquest. The police urge members of the public to seek professional help if confronted by problems,” she said.
