The Electoral Commission was ordered to request the Member of the Executive Council to postpone the by-elections of 24 February 2016 in Wards 1, 4, 11, 12, 13, 18, and 20 of the Tlokwe Municipality, North West Province for a period of six weeks.
According to the Electoral Court judgment, the certification of the voters’ roll which is the subject matter of this case has been set aside. The IEC is ordered to provide all candidates in the Tlokwe municipal by-elections with a copy or a segment of the voters’ roll to be used in their respective wards in the municipal by-elections, including the addresses of all voters, where these addresses are available.
According to Independent Candidates’ attorney, Hans-Jurie Moolman, “Independent councillors of Tlokwe were successful in convincing the court that there are irregularities in the certified voters’ roll and the by-elections were postponed to enable the IEC to remedy the deficiencies.”
