Last Friday, councillors of the opposition parties walked out of the Tlokwe council meeting to approve the mid-term budget. ANC supporters filled the public gallery, singing slogans and expressing their unhappiness at the postponement of the by-elections. During the proceedings, some members of the public swore and hurled insults at opposition councillors. The opposition objected to the budget and deemed some of the items as unauthorised, irregular or fruitless and wasteful expenditure. The opposition accused the council of awarding contracts worth millions without following proper supply chain management procedures.
