
At 00:25 last week Sunday morning, a 30-year-old man was gunned down on the intersection of Adolf Willemse and Allen Hendrickse streets in Promosa. According to Const. Kelebogile Trom, an SAPS spokesperson, the police received a complaint of fighting in Promosa. On arrival, they found the man lying on his back with bullet wounds in his left armpit and right thigh. While he was shot only twice, the police found three cartridges next to the body. Trom says no arrest have been made; the suspect is still at large.
In another incident on the same day, the police attended to an incident in Meriting Street, Ikageng, at about 06:35. On their arrival at the scene, they found the body of an African man on the dining room floor.
“He was facing upwards and EMRS personnel had removed his T-shirt. He had been stabbed in the left side of his chest. Two suspects, aged 19 and 22 respectively, were arrested. The incident is suspected to be gang-related,” she explained.
The following morning, a Bangladeshi man died after being stabbed in the chest in Extension 11.
According to Trom, the police attended the murder scene at 01:00 on Monday morning and found the body in blood-stained clothes, lying on its back.
“The friend of the deceased alleges that they were walking down the street when three males approached them and demanded money. A fight ensued, during which the victim was stabbed in the chest and succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was taken to Potchefstroom mortuary. No suspect has been arrested,” she said.
Trom went on to say that a tavern owner was shot and wounded at Sekhute Street, Ikageng at about 23:45 on Sunday. The police were called to the scene and found the man lying next to the gate and bleeding from a wound on his upper body.
“He was shot in the chest. The victim alleges that some unknown African man confronted him and fought him inside the house. He was shot in the process, Trom said.
According to her, the burglar bars of the bathroom window had been broken through and clothes were scattered all over the floor. The wardrobe had also been opened.
“The victim was taken to Potchefstroom Hospital. No one has been arrested,” she concluded.
