A helpless 14-year-old girl from Ext. 7 who was raped by her stepfather several times between 2014 and 2016, finally plucked up the courage to spill the beans last month.
Her 35-year-old stepfather was arrested last week. The Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom says the teen was 12 years old when she was allegedly raped for the first time. The suspect threatened her with a gun if she spoke out.
According to Trom, the teen ran away to live with her other sister at her grandmother’s house on 14 November. This after the stepfather beat her up. She refused to go back home until her mother, sister, grandmother and aunt sat her down and asked her what was going on. She told them the whole story and when it started.
Her sister decided to call Childline and took the victim to Thuthuzela centre for counselling. The alleged rape was then reported to the police.
