A passer-by discovered the body of the lovely 20-year-old, Mathapelo Mampe in Kanana, Ikageng on Saturday morning.
Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom says the police received the call at about 06:57. On their arrival at the scene, they found the body covered with a blanket.
‘When they uncovered the body, they noticed that it was a young woman whose throat had been slit. She was not wearing anything on the lower part of her body. The emergency services declared the victim dead and the forensic services took the body for further investigations,’ she reported.
Tshidiso Mampe, Mathapelo’s 29-year-old brother says the family is heartbroken at the loss. ‘She was a cheerful person who always used to call me every morning and ask how I am doing. She enjoyed dancing and going out with her friends. I would like the law enforcers to act swiftly and arrest the people who killed my sister. God will see to it that they get the punishment they deserve for committing this murder,’ he said.
Mathapelo’s sister-in-law and close friend, Dimakatso Kaleng says she has lost a beautiful friend who used to be the best childminder to her two children. ‘She was a darling Z friendly, and hardworking. She was full of love and, everywhere she went, people loved her. She did everything Z cooked, cleaned, did the laundry and acted as a handywoman in my home,’ she said.
Mathapelo’s uncle, Zwelakhe Mampe says although they are heartbroken and saddened by the death; this was a wake-up call for young girls in Ikageng to heed their parents’ advice and be reprimanded for going out at night and walking alone. He says it would make the police’s job a lot easier.
Her distraught mother, Johanna Mampe says her heart is painful and she would like to see her daughter’s killers arrested and spending the rest of their lives behind bars.
Mathapelo will be buried in Kanana this Saturday. Funeral 2000 has agreed to donate a coffin and other services to the family because her mother is unemployed. Kedi Lerefolo from NW405 will also be assisting the family. The family would like assistance with groceries for the funeral. If anyone would like to donate please call Const. Trom on 082 374 0271 and if any one has information on the murder, please contact Lt Col Johan Scholtz at 082 568 6264.
