The Ikageng police have once again warned women against taking shortcuts on footpaths, especially at night and when it is quiet.

The Kanana graveyard, the Ikageng stadium, the library, the vacant men’s hostel in Ikageng, the Shaun Pollock cricket grounds and the Ramitsahane Street passage next to the women’s hostel are all crime hotspots and are,
therefore, considered to be no-go areas for women after dark.
A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped at the Shaun Pollock cricket grounds while she and a friend were walking home from a pub after 06:00.
This area was the scene of a number of incidents of rape last year.
An 18-year-old was also raped in an open veld between Ext. 6 and Ext. 11 at 18:00 on Monday.
In addition, the Ikageng police are investigating the recent rape of an 8-year-old girl from Ext. 6 by an unknown man. In case of an emergency, phone the Ikageng police at 018 295 1730.
