The Ikageng police are investigating two separate incidents of rape involving a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.
According to Const. Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson, an unknown man in Baipei Promosa allegedly raped the 13-year-old girl at about 21:30 on Friday.
She says he took the teenager by force from where she was standing in front of a hair salon to another street where he allegedly raped her at knifepoint.
Trom says the other incident involves an unknown man who allegedly raped a 12-year-old boy on 21 April. The boy and some of his friends were looking for donkeys in an open veld in Promosa at the time.
She says the man claimed to know where to find the donkeys and told the other boys that they could go home. He stayed behind with the victim and allegedly raped him,’ says Trom, adding that the boy alleges that the same suspect had raped him the day before.
With Child Protection Week coming up later this month, Trom advises parents to ensure that their children are safe and are not in the streets at night because of the high incidence of rape in the area. She also says young boys should not play in the open veld because they are vulnerable to crime and the criminals who target them.
