Couple stoned and robbed, woman allegedly raped

Two knife-wielding suspects attacked a couple coming back from a pub in Ikageng in the early hours of Monday morning. They managed to knock the man out and took turns raping his girlfriend.

According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the Ikageng police spokesperson, the 25-year-old woman and her boyfriend were on their way home at about 02:30 on Monday morning when the two unknown men pounced on them.
‘They came from behind and the boyfriend noticed that they were carrying knives. The suspects started throwing stones at them and, when the boyfriend tried to retaliate, they wanted to stab him. One of the suspects hit him with a stone and he fell to the ground, unconscious. The woman fell down next to him.’
Trom says they took his phone and picked the woman up and took her to an unknown house nearby. They took turns raping her at knifepoint.
A case of rape and robbery has been opened at the police. This incident comes after a report in last week’s Herald about a 30-year-old woman who was also on her way back from the pub when she was dragged away to structures in a back yard and raped by two unknown men.
Despite the weekly warnings about the dangers of walking from pubs and taverns at night, Trom says young women are still doing so and becoming victims of crime. ‘The SAPS is once again pleading with the community members to stop walking at night because there are criminals watching their every move,’ she warned.
