On Saturday, 3 March, hundreds of Potchefstroomers will take part in the Cansa Relay for Life, an international movement that unites cancer survivors and the communities that care about them. It is an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer and honour those who have been affected.
This fun event is where teams of 10 –15 friends, neighbours, families and co-workers commit to having at least one team member walking around the track at all times for 18 –24 hours.
The Relay for Life event opens with a heartfelt survivors’ lap, followed by an emotive luminaria ceremony.
Teams are encouraged to raise funds for the fight against cancer in their area. They camp out around the track overnight and enjoy entertainment, fun and camaraderie in a festive atmosphere.
Entry fees are R700 per team or R350 for university or school teams.
