Willie Maphosa, the council spokesperson, blames the situation on internal labour issues and contractual glitches at the landfill site.
‘Added to the difficulty was the fact that people have been dumping in a disorderly manner outside the boundaries of the site. However, these issues have now been resolved and the service provider at the dumping site has agreed to extend their scope and the area is now being properly cleaned.

‘The municipality regrets the serious inconvenience already caused to the public,’ he apologised.

Hanlie Bezuidenhout says the businesses near her home dump trash in front of her home in Goetz Street every day.

According to him, refuse removal has now resumed and everything possible is being done to address the service backlog. ‘We are concentrating on clearing the backlog first but we will soon inform the residents about the refuse removal over the festive season. ‘The schedule may even be released in the coming week,’ he said.
