The Ikageng police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl in Sarafina on 23 December.
The suspect is the boyfriend of the girl’s aunt.
Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson, says the woman was not at home that afternoon and the suspect waited for the girl’s cousins to leave.
‘When the child went to the bedroom to take a nap, the suspect followed her. He undressed her, unzipped his jeans and proceeded to rape her.
After the incident, he tried to bribe her with money, a cell phone and food but the girl refused.
‘Her sister found her crying and reported the incident to the police. It is alleged that it was not the first time that he has raped her,’ said Trom.
