Earlier today (22 November), just after 00:00, six suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the parking lot of a club that is situated in the Potch Industrial area.
According to Colonel Adéle Myburgh, Provincial Police spokesperson, police officials of the flying squad, K9 and crime prevention, arrested the suspects after they received information from a community member who thought the behaviour of the suspects was suspicious.
“The police reacted swiftly and found the suspects sleeping in a Toyota Quantum at about 00:20. Consequently, their vehicle was searched and three 9mm pistols, 39 rounds of ammunition and balaclavas were found hidden in a false compartment in the vehicle. Furthermore, the police seized numerous tools as well as gloves,” said Myburgh.
She says the suspects will appear at the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, the Provincial Commissioner, commends the officials for their swift response and further pleads with the community to be the eyes and ears of the police, as they turn the tide against crime.
