Coronavirus: First case in South Africa has been confirmed

A 38-year-old man has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19 virus) in KwaZulu Natal.

A 38-year-old man has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19 virus) in KwaZulu Natal.

According to an article in eNCA, the man and his wife recently travelled to Italy, and they were part of a group of people who arrived back in South Africa on Sunday, 1 March.

In a statement, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, the Minister of Health said “The patient consulted a private general practitioner on 3 March, with symptoms of fever, headache, malaise, a sore throat, and a cough. The practice nurse took swabs and delivered it to the lab.”

He further mentions that the man and doctor have been self-isolated.
