Municipality: Off colour water is safe to drink
The local municipality states that the coloured water is suitable for consumption.

Residents took to Facebook recently to complain about water coming out of their taps that were off colour. Some residents feared that the water could be hazardous to their health.
The municipality states that the coloured water is suitable for consumption. According to William Maphosa, municipal spokesperson, the laboratory analysis shows the colour of the water was within the required SANS 241 limits. “We however acknowledge the slight turbidity readings above the regulatory standard at some of the points. This means that the water contains higher than normal floating particles. These Particles are not harmful. So even though the water is not of the normal colour, it is not a health hazard although it is indeed not aesthetic or appealing on the eye,” said Maphosa.
He reassures that their technical services department will flush the network, as a result, the brown water (mostly present in the mornings) will be resolved.
