Would you quit your job after winning the lottery – or be like this woman?
Winning the lottery can often be the cue for the lucky recipient to make some purchases. There have been plenty of instances that have seen winners spend their newfound riches on big houses, expensive cars, lengthy holidays abroad and more.

Every now and then, though, there are examples of those who win big, but choose to continue living humbly and within their means despite their fresh ability to be a whole lot more lavish with their lives than in the past.
This is exemplified by an office worker in the North West, who recently took home R38 million after entering and winning the lotto.
While elated with her triumph, she has no overly glamorous plans to ‘go big’ with her winnings or be like others who have quit their jobs. Instead, she wants to continue working at her current job, make a few modest but necessary purchases and then help others.
” I don’t plan to resign. My life is not going to change,” she was quoted as saying by OFM, as per News24. “Most of the time I don’t check the numbers because your winnings are usually paid into your bank account. “But this time, the following day, a man from FNB called me to tell me that I won.
“I initially thought I had won around R52 000, but the man said he could not tell me how much I had won – I needed to visit the lottery operator, Ithuba’s offices. But then I checked the numbers. I almost fell down. I couldn’t believe it.”
In terms of what she will probably do with her money in the near future, well, her motives are evidently selfless and should go a long way in helping others. Of course, there will be some room for a few spoils. “I’d like to help my aunt renovate her place, build my mother the house she always dreamt of and get a place of my own. I’m also buying a car for myself – a VW Polo TSI, a simple car. I’m not going to buy a Ferrari or anything like that – then all my money will be finished,” she quipped. “I still can’t believe it. I have been playing the lottery for what seems like forever. I play every week – the Lotto and PowerBall.”
The North West winner is not alone in her consistency in playing the lottery. Others in South Africa enter week in and week out. A good few of them like to use the same numbers each and every time, too. This theme was epitomsed in late 2020, when an entrepreneur in Gauteng won – more or less – the same amount as his North West compatriot. His R38 million came on the back of hardly – if ever – missing the opportunity to enter the lottery.
What’s more? He used the same numbers for years on end. “I used the same numbers for about four years, not only for the Lotto but for the Powerball and Daily Lotto.I thought maybe I’d change my playing strategy. But thankfully I didn’t and I played the same numbers manually rather than using the quick pick,” he enthused
