On Tuesday, 27 July, members of the Potchefstroom Mounted Unit arrested a twenty-three-year-old man in possession of dagga and Mandrax.

According to Col. Adéle Myburgh, the police spokesperson in North West, the suspect was arrested while members were patrolling the illegal Mooibank informal settlement. The drugs were discovered in a tuckshop. It is alleged that the police saw a suspicious plastic bag while searching the shop. They opened it to discover small packs of dagga. The police proceeded to a back room, where they discovered more dagga under a bed. According to Col. Myburgh, a biscuit box under a sofa allegedly contained Mandrax pills.

The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with dealing in dagga worth an estimated street value of R22,550 and possession of Mandrax worth R1,080.
