Following unrest at the J.B. Marks municipality this morning, the Dan Tloome Municipal Building are currently closed.
According to Willie Maphosa, municipal spokesperson, a group of disgruntled residents have stormed the building and subsequently disturbed the normal functioning of the facility resulting in members of SAPS and security being called to the scene.

According to one of the protestors who asked to remain anonymous, the disruption was caused due to lack of service delivery,
“There are vacancies that are available but they aren’t being advertised to the public. They would rather save them for those that they know, we as the public have had enough,” he said.
” Many of our children in the rural areas are unemployed yet, we continue to see posts being filled at the municipality without being advertised to the public,” he concluded.
DA ward councilor, Cllr Jeanne Adriaanse says she condemns the fact that hardworking municipal officers are being chased out of their offices , ” We need service delivery desperately in this town and this behaviour is totally unacceptable,” she said.
The municipality advise that some of their services may be negatively affected. This is to ensure the safety and security of the property, personnel and the public. The public will be informed immediately once the situation has been resolved.
