On Monday, 4 October, a resident of Promosa Ext. 4, who asked to remain anonymous, was passing by when he heard a commotion at the community sewage hole.
“I was on my way to my house from town when I noticed a lot of people hanging around there,” he said. “I thought the municipal workers were fixing it again when someone I knew told me they had found a baby.”
According to Captain Aafje Botma, the police spokesperson, a case of concealment of birth was opened after a very small foetus was found in the sewage hole.
Residents are still in disbelief after the incident.
“As a mother, I was horrified by what I saw. I might not know the circumstances for that decision, but I’m sure there could’ve been better ways to go about it,” she said.
