To prevent a dumping site from developing in his area, a good samaritan took it upon himself to have the field opposite his yard cleaned.
“A private resident called us to clean the field. He seems to be someone who doesn’t like filth and decided to have it sorted since the municipality isn’t doing anything about the area,” Emmanuel Nazo, one of the workers explained.
For the longest time, the grass in the Berlin area of Ikageng has been unmaintained and a dumping site was starting to develop. “One of the main reasons why the resident was concerned was because people were now disposing of their garbage here and, given the state of the dumping sites in this area, it soon would’ve become unmanageable,” Emmanuel said.
Local soccer players often use the same field too. “Now that we are cleaning it up, they will be able to play games uninterrupted,” he added.
“Being people who clean yards for a living, it brings us great pleasure to be involved in projects like these,” he said. “We started cleaning this field on Tuesday (22 February) and we will be done by Wednesday afternoon (23 February).”
The workers urge the community to lend a helping hand by keeping the area clean.
The resident who had hired the workers was not home when the Herald conducted the interview.
The publication also asked the municipality for comment, but none was forthcoming by the time of going to print.
