Determined to win the fight against drugs

With the increased crime rate and drug use within the Potchefstroom community, Tshegofatso Micheal Tabane was inspired to motivate teens to choose a different path.
“We came to discover that most crimes, like house burglaries, are committed by people under the influence of drugs. Once they are high, they think of something and act on it immediately,” he said.
So far, Tshegofatso and his team are busy registering their NPO. They are targeting different schools in Ikageng, urging the learners to choose a better life for themselves, not forgetting those who may already have a drug problem.
“We have already been to Bothoka High School and Lesego Primary where we encouraged youngsters to focus on their studies and not fall into the trap of peer pressure,” he said.
“However, the NPO aims to connect with professionals who can assist those who are already on drugs. We want to create a platform where they can seek help and be taken into rehabilitation centres,” he added.
Tshegofatso says they have spoken to the police about forming an alliance to tackle this matter.
“We also urge the community to assist us as we cannot do it on our own,” he said.
