Municipality puts emphasis on water conservation with Water Lekgotla event

According to Jeanette Tshite, Acting Manager of Communication for J.B. Marks Local Municipality the purpose of the Water Lekgotla campaign was to address challenges related to water conditions across the area.

The 2022 water week campaign was commemorated in the form of a two day roadshow from 17-18 March during which residents were once more, taught about their responsibility in water conservation initiatives, to protect and conserve the country’s water resources. Residents were urged to use water sparingly to ensure water for all.

The campaign unfolded at various areas in both Tlokwe and Ventersdorp Regions under the theme: “Groundwater – making the invisible visible.” As part of the water month commemoration, the J.B. Marks Local Municipality hosted a #2022WaterLekgotla campaign from 23-24 March which was held at the Dan Tloome Municipal Chamber in Potchefstroom, under the theme: #Groundwater- “Making the invisible visible” and “Valuing our ground water resources”.

The event was attended by the North West University (Aquatic Microbiology Research Personnel), Department of Economic Development, Environmental Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), North West Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Water Institute of South Africa (WISA), Department of Water and Sanitation, Water Service Development Plan (WSDP) and the Municipal Services Stratic Assessment (MuSSA).
