Visitors now allowed at all correctional centres

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) reinstated visitations for inmates at correctional centres on Wednesday, 6 April 2022.

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s termination of the National State of Disaster, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) reinstated visitations for inmates at correctional centres on Wednesday, 6 April 2022.
DCS reviewed its Covid-19 risk-adjusted strategy following the president’s announcement and will permit visits for inmates. All relevant Covid-19 protocols and regulations will still be adhered to during the visitations.
DCS remains committed to prioritising the health of both officials and inmates. At the moment, DCS has a total of nine Covid-19 active cases (seven inmates and two officials). The cumulative cases stand at 21,825 (12,043 officials and 9,782 inmates). The cumulative recoveries to date stand at 21,459 (11,798 for officials and 9,661 for inmates), translating to a recovery rate of 98,32 per cent.
The total number of fatalities in DCS remains 357 (242 for officials and 115 for inmates). A total of 23,220 (58,26 per cent) officials and 111,972 (87,86 per cent) inmates have been vaccinated.
