Resident concerned about possible floods in Ext. 4

Following the heavy rains of last week, a Promosa resident is concerned that a situation similar to the floods in KZN could occur because there is no proper water channel system in Extension 4, Promosa.

Gilroy Modutloa, whose partner and child stay in that area, worries that the situation will soon become dangerous. According to Modutloa, the rainwater comes down from Promosa and Aksiepark and into Extension 4 where water often flows into people’s homes and damages their furniture.
“On days when there is lots of rain, the water level gets as high as your knee; imagine the safety of young children,” Modutloa said.

“This is an issue the municipality can easily fix but it has been going on for over five years,” he lamented.
“My suggestion is that they channel the water somewhere else where it is safe.”
Modutloa added that the municipality and the councillor for the area are aware of the issue, yet it isn’t being resolved.

“They did construct a proper channelling system before, but, unfortunately, people throw their trash there, and it gets blocked,” he explained.
“We have reported the issue numerous times, but nothing is being done.”
Gilroy says he is concerned about women and children who cannot swim. He fears many could die horrible deaths.

“I would suggest channelling the water to Ext. 5 because no one lives there,” Gilroy said.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but had re- received none in time for print.
