Promosa Secondary learners demand better

On Friday, 29 April, a group of Promosa Secondary learners showed their dissatisfaction by protesting and burning tyres at the school.

They were demanding an increase of teachers as well as adequate service delivery at the school.

According to one of the teachers, who asked to remain anonymous, the strike was mainly about the quality of the food provided to the learners as well as a shortage of teachers.

“Ever since the new food handlers started at the school in February this year, the learners have complained that the quality isn’t up to standard. On Thursday, 28 April, an incident occurred where the food was contaminated which lead to the strike the next day,” she explained.

Apart from the food issue, the teacher adds that the learners are also complaining about some of the current teachers at the school as well as a lack of teachers.

“We also currently don’t have a mathematics teacher for grades 10 to 12 which is proving to be a big issue,” a teacher explained.

A grade 10 learner who was part of the protest, said they are in need of more resources ” We are going to fail because we aren’t able to learn without teachers. Give us the quality education that we deserve, enough is enough,” he expressed.
