Quick reactions and a keen sense of observation from an off-duty police officer saw two suspects being caught red-handed this past weekend on the N12 near Ikageng.

Sergeant Gaolatlhwe Joel Masilo was driving on N12 near Ikageng on Saturday, 17 June at around 10:20 when he noticed two men confronting another man, who was walking towards the township.

Sergeant Masilo immediately pulled off the road and engaged the man, who indicated that the suspects alleged threatened and robbed him of the cellular phone.

“Sergeant Masilo courageously confronted the suspects who were close by and managed to retrieve the cellular phone. He went on to arrest both suspects. The duo will appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, 19 June), on a charge of robbery,” stated NW police spokesperson, Col. Adele Myburgh.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended Sergeant Masilo for his bravery and commitment in ensuring that the victim was protected and his property retrieved shortly after the crime was committed.
