Numerous organisations across Potchefstroom, Promosa and Ikageng showed their caring hearts with various projects aimed at improving the lives of others during their 67 minutes for Mandela Day (Tuesday, 18 July).

ATKV AbbAsorg Promosa, one of five social responsibility centres in the country, celebrated Mandela Day by repainting its walls from the inside and outside.

Volunteers from the community took brushes and paint and transformed the walls into colourful and vivid art pieces. They then enjoyed soup and bread.

The Molapo Armoured Regiment visited the Ikhaya La Bantwana orphanage in Ikageng, where they presented clothes and groceries to the children.

Leondra Fransman saw the plight of the elderly in Barcelona, Promosa, and approached the DA Promosa and Potch for assistance.

“We managed to get blankets from councillors of the DA for the elderly, and some DA members donated books, sanitary hygiene products and some tin food from Mrs Janet Potgieter from Face of Africa. Some of the elderly are suffering in this difficult time of economic uncertainty, looking after their grandchildren and other family members, not to mention the service delivery challenges, sewage problems and cable theft, and, in some cases, dilapidated homes in Barcelona,” stated DA PR councillor, Glenville Fransman.

Shooting for the Stars also visited Samuel Broadbent House on Mandela Day. The residents of MHA Samuel Broadbent House was spoiled with treats and coffee served by the little Stars from Shooting for the Stars.
