Potch pizza place takes top 10 spot in the country

Julia’s Eatalian competed against the best of the best and finished in eighth position in the 2023 Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge

One of Potchefstroom’s restaurant gems, Julia’s Eatalian, recently received the honour of being voted one of South Africa’s top 10 pizzerias.

Julia’s Eatalian competed against the best of the best and finished in eighth position in the 2023 Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge, climbing six spots from the 14th place they achieved in 2022.

For the past three months, restaurants from all over the country have been vying to secure a spot in the top 10 list of this year’s Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge and possibly go on to claim the top honours as home of South Africa’s tastiest pizzas as voted for by consumers.

Needless to say, the team lead by Julia’s general manager, Charl Claassen are over the moon with the news of this year’s result.

“A huge thanks go out to all regular and new customers for casting their votes and sharing our posts on social media; all the waiting staff that encouraged voting and, last but not least, to the team in the kitchen for pushing out quality pizzas and not dropping on standards and consistency,” stated Claassen.

The Julia’s Eatalian team took 8th place in the Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge. From left to right is Christo Weidemann, Charl Claassen and Everest Leemisa.

The winner of this year’s Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge was Gino’s, which is based in Robertsham, Johannesburg. It unseated last year’s winner Ferdinando’s Pizza (Observatory, Cape Town) which took fourth spot this time round. Others in the top 10 included Lucio’s (Randburg), Corlie’s Italian (Paardevlei, Cape Town), Piccola Rossa (Benoni), Mooiuitsig Kombuis (Groot Brakrivier), Gino’s (Stellenbosch) and Osteria Rossa (Bedfordview).

Julia’s Eatalian can be found at 14 Luke Avenue, Potchefstroom.
