Small tree planted in OR Tambo-street pothole
According to the municipality, wet weather conditions in Potchefstroom are delaying repairs to the water leak.
A tree has been placed in a pothole caused by an underground pipe that burst in OR Tambo street.
Subsequently, a water leak has started which has flooded the road.
Motorists have had to weave around this pothole caused by a water leak in OR Tambo street for the past two weeks. Firstly, one could only see water pouring out of pothole, but now a small tree has also been added to alert motorists. This is a busy section of the street close to the Potchefstroom police station.

According to JB Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, the JB Marks Technical Team attended the location of the pipe bust and found that the surrounding soil remains heavily saturated due to ongoing wet weather conditions.
“These conditions prevent immediate repair work, as the area must first dry sufficiently to allow for proper reinstatement using appropriate materials such as G1, subsoil, pipe bedding, and hot asphalt,” explained Tshite.
According to Tshite, undertaking repairs on wet or unstable ground would compromise the quality and durability of the work.
“The matter has been recorded and is being monitored as part of daily operational activities. Repairs will proceed as soon as conditions are suitable. The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused as we work to ensure safe and lasting repairs.”
