Potchefstroom Boys High’s U18 sevens rugby team completed a memorable tournament victory at the Ferdies 7s tournament, which took place from September 11 to 12.
Potch Boys won the final 25-19 against Ferdies. The U15s went down 14-7 in the semi-final against Volkies but eventually finished in third place. Volkies won the U15 tournament, beating HTS Klerksdorp 36-5.
According to Potchefstroom Boys High sport director, Mohau Mohlahleli, the tournament gave their rugby players a fantastic opportunity to compete against quality opposition and test themselves in a highly competitive environment.
“One of the highlights was playing against our neighbouring rivals, HTS Klerksdorp. Those matches always carry a bit of extra excitement, but it was great to see the boys embrace the challenge and compete with confidence and determination,” he stated.
“For us as Potch Boys, this achievement means a lot. Rugby is growing strongly at the school, and seeing the boys put in the hard work, believe in themselves and produce results on the field is incredibly rewarding. It shows that the programme is moving in the right direction.”
Mohlahleli also mentioned that the school is grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a competitive tournament.
“Being able to walk away as champions made the experience even more special. Credit must go to the players, coaches, management and everyone behind the scenes who continues to support the boys.”
