Integrity is at the core of Ikageng Station Commander

Colonel Mosimanegape Leie's 34 years of experience in the police has given him valuable insight into the daily challenges at Ikageng SAPS.

Col. Mosimanegape Leie, the Station Commander at Ikageng SAPS, is a man who leaves no stone unturned.

His 34 years of experience in the police have taught him to value his career and invest his time wisely to make a difference in the community.

Col. Leie progressed through the various ranks since starting his career in Mahikeng in 1992. This includes roles in organisational development, police emergency services, as well as serving as an operational commander from 2016.

He was born in Taung in 1971 and knew from a young age that he wanted to join the police. That moment came when he saw officers on duty while still at school.

“In those days, you were monitored thoroughly. A full profile was compiled on your family and background before you could join the police. Getting in was quite tough,” – Col. Leie.

He has served as the Station Commander at Ikageng SAPS since 2022. During his tenure, he has focused on combating drug and alcohol abuse and has been active in curbing the prevalence of domestic violence.

“Drugs and domestic violence go hand in hand. We have a lot of gender-based violence cases in Ikageng. One of the main reasons for drug and alcohol abuse is the number of illegal taverns,” added Col. Leie.
Housebreakings are another concern for Ikageng SAPS and Col. Leie mentions that support from the community goes a long way in assisting police to arrest offenders.

“We have good support from the community in this regard, but we can always improve. It’s important to educate the community about the work that we do. That is why we visit numerous schools and communities as well,” he adds.
When he has spare time, Col. Leie enjoys cooking.

“I make a really nice dumpling with stew. My dumplings are made with brown flour, and I add raisins. It’s delicious.”

Col. Leie encourages anyone who wants to join the police to take it seriously as a career.

“It’s not always easy. You need to be disciplined and obedient. Rules and regulations are there for a reason.”
