Residents without water due to pipeline damage
A pipeline was damaged during work on the Promosa-Poortjie Dam Bulk Sewer Line project.
Damage to a water supply pipeline that occurred during the Promosa-Poortjie Dam Bulk Sewer Line project has left residents with interruptions to their water supply this morning (Wednesday, August 19).
The areas affected are Bult, Miederpark, Central Business District (CBD), Military Base and Potchindustria.
According to the JB Marks Municipality, the contractor’s team is currently on site near the intersection of Louis Le Grange and Jeppe Streets, with assistance from personnel from JB Marks Local Municipality, to assess and address the damage.
“Due to the high-pressure flow of water from the damaged pipeline into the excavation, the team has been unable to safely access the affected section of the pipe. The immediate priority is to isolate the damaged section by redirecting or stopping the water flow and pumping water from the excavation. Once the affected section has been isolated and the trench sufficiently de-watered, the team will conduct a detailed assessment and commence with the necessary repairs,” stated Jeanette Tshite, spokesperson of the JB Marks Municipality.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make provision for a possible prolonged interruption to the water supply while the situation is being assessed and remedial work is undertaken.
“JB Marks Local Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the patience of residents and businesses while the necessary repairs are carried out.”
