Potch Primary bring back bronze from Kay Motsepe Nationals

Potch Primary represented the JB Marks region with pride at the Kay Motsepe National Championship

The U13 soccer boys from Potchefstroom Primary brought home bronze medals from the prestigious 2026 Kay Motsepe National Championship in Soshanguve this past week.

It is a fantastic achievement, considering that they played against the best teams from across the nation at this level for the first time.

Potch Primary were unbeaten throughout the group stages until they were defeated in the semi-final against Queenswood. They then got back on their feet after the disappointment to win the bronze medal in the third- and fourth-place play-off with a 2-1 victory over Belfast Primary.

“Although the result was disappointing, reaching the semi-finals in their first national appearance was an achievement to be extremely proud of. The boys were also impressed by the excellent organisation and professionalism of the tournament, which gave them an opportunity to experience football at a much higher level,” added their coach, Themba Twala.

He further pointed to the amazing opportunities the boys received, as they could interact with former professional players and pick their brains.

“It allowed the boys to see that their dreams of reaching professional football are possible. The experience has given them greater motivation, confidence and inspiration to work harder, believe in themselves and continue pursuing their football dreams.”
