Police nab suspects with drugs worth R 200 000
A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately 1 000 tablets suspected to be Mandrax.
This past Wednesday evening, October 7, two suspects were arrested with drug dealing after suspected drugs worth approximately R200 000 were found in their car during a police operation on the N12 in Potchefstroom.
According to NW police spokesperson, Sergeant Kelebogile Morake, Potchefstroom Public Order Policing (POP) members received information about a white Toyota Corolla allegedly being used to transport drugs.
“The information was followed up and with the assistance of neighbourhood watch members the vehicle was spotted along Nelson Mandela Drive, near the N12 and Mooirivier Mall,” stated Morake.

The driver of vehicle also allegedly failed to stop when being flagged down, which resulted in a short pursuit between police and the suspects. The vehicle was eventually stopped and two occupants were arrested.
“A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately 1 000 tablets suspected to be Mandrax, approximately 100 grams of a crystal type substance, suspected to be an illicit drug, as well as cash believed to be proceeds of drug dealing,” explained Morake.
“Drug dealers have no place in our communities. We will continue disrupting the illicit drug trade and urge the public to provide information that can assist us,” added the provincial Commissioner of the North West, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams.
The two suspects, aged 29 and 34, were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs in terms of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.
North West Provincial Organised Crime is investigating the case. The suspects are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates Court on Friday, October 9.
