The SA Women’s Proteas side clinched an enthralling 7-run victory against the Sri Lankan Women in the first Women’s ODI at Senwes Park on Monday, 11 February in a brilliant spectacle that showcased the splendor of women’s cricket.

It was SA captain, Dané van Niekerk who lead the way with her maiden ODI century as she stroked and slog-swept her way to a superb 102 (117) to take SA to a total of 225/7 in their 48 overs.

Andrie Steyn (75 off 100) also played beautifully for the Proteas with Masabatha Klaas (3/46) and Tumi Sekhukhune (2/33) and Van Niekerk (2/26) the pick of SA’s bowlers. SA restricted the Sri Lankans to 218/9 as knocks from Shashikala Siriwardene (49 off 56) and Prasadani Weerakkody (47) could not stop defeat in a gallant effort.
