The North West University netball team carried their red-hot form into day two of the 2021 Varsity Netball Tournament beating UWC 82-33. The Eagles made their intentions clear after beating the defending champions UP Tuks 64-73 in their opening game yesterday.

Elsunet du Plessis coach of the NWU team made a couple of changes going into their encounter but that didn’t change the way the Eagles played.
The NWU side took their powerplay within the first five minutes, something that isn’t normally seen from most teams, but it paid off.
NWU led 25-10 after the first quarter, giving the side the momentum from the get-go and with a rock-solid defensive effort made it difficult for UWC to get back into the game. They carried on dominating the ball and with a sharp goal shooter like Elmeré van der Berg converting most of her goal scoring opportunities.
This saw the Eagles extend their lead by 29 points going into the half time break with the score at 45-16.

Jessica du Plessis showed why she was selected to represent the Proteas in Jamaica, controlling the game and converting her opportunities.
NWU head coach, Elsunet du Plessis had the opportunity to give all her players a run on the court for the last two quarters, seeing some new faces on the court from the NWU.

NWU team stuck to the game plan and was just too good in all departments seeing them get another bonus point victory over the team from the Western Cape.
Jessica du Plessis captain of the team was rewarded for her great performance after being named the Player of the Match.
With an action-packed schedule for the teams in this years Varsity Netball, the NWU team will want to make it three from three when play hosts Maties at 15:00 in what will be a superb game tomorrow.
