Potch Dam closed for more than a month due to SANDF training

This is due to a request from the South African National Defence Force to utilise the facility for training purposes.

The Potchefstroom Dam (Lakeside Resort) will be temporarily closed the public for more than a month from Monday, October 26 until Monday, November 30.

According to official communication from the JB Marsk Municipality, this is due to a request from the SANDF to utilise the facility for training purposes. This is mainly due to the swimming pool facility at Potch Dam, which is the only 50 meter Olympic size swimming pool in the province.

Potch Dam will be open to the public again from December 1, 2026.

“The resort will therefore be inaccessible to residents and the general public for the duration of the closure. The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s understanding of the matter,” adds JB Marks Municipality spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite.

The SANDF is also set to host a Military Skills Training Competition from 26 October – 1 November.
