The Titans are the deserved champions of the CSA T20 Challenge after a superbly composed chase secured a 4-wicket victory against the Dolphins in the final at the JB Marks Oval on Saturday, 5 November.
The Titans chased down the Dolphins’ 162/3 thanks to a match-winning 63-run partnership from Dayyaan Galiem (32* off 22) and Donavon Ferreira 40 (25) that took the Titans from a difficult position of 98/5 to the victory target with 2 balls to spare.
This showcased the Titans batting depth, were despite losing wickets, they still had the determination and level-headedness to keep themselves in the game.
The Dolphins were on top form and the match could’ve gone there way as well. It was superb advert for domestic T20 cricket in front of an eager Potch crowd. Locals came in their numbers to the JB Marks Oval and were rewarded with a brilliant final.
Jon-Jon Smuts was the Dolphins star in the final taking 2/25 with the ball and hitting 69 (50) with the bat. Together with Keegan Petersen (63 off 51) the pair put on a 115-run partnership. This was crucial, especially after the in-form Grant Roelofsen was dismissed for a golden duck with the first ball of the final, courtesy of Ayabulela Gqamane.
In the end, the Titans showed resilience and big match temperament when needed to clinch a win in the final and will be the team to beat this 2022/23 domestic season.
