Yekile spins Dragons women to victory at the Witrand Oval

The Dragons made hard work of the chase, but Lizri de Villiers with a solid 33* (63) saw the hosts through to victory with seven balls to spare.

The North West Dragons women won their first match in this season’s One Day Cup with a narrow and pulsating 2-wicket win against the Lions women at the Witrand Oval on Saturday, 26 November.

The hero for the Dragons women was spinner, Evodia Yekile (5/17) who shone with the ball in hand. Her wickets took the Lions women down for only 161.

The Dragons made hard work of the chase, but Lizri de Villiers with a solid 33* (63) saw the hosts through to victory with seven balls to spare.

The Lions’ top performer with bat and ball was Kgomotso Rapoo who hit 36 and took 2/18 with the ball.

The Dragons could not keep the momentum in the T20 Cup match against the Lions on Sunday, 27 November as they succombed to a 5-wicket loss.

The Dragons women could only manage 86/9 from their 20 overs with Elandri Janse van Rensburg top-scoring with 26 (27)

The Lions chased down the target with an over to spare as Kirstie Thomson hit a well constructed 35.
