Blairgowrie Primary goes the extra mile with Mint Mile Initiative

The school collected goods for Oasis Haven Orphanage and launched the Mint Mile initiative, urging students to donate coins.

Blairgowrie Primary School has demonstrated its commitment to community service through its latest charitable endeavour, the Mint Mile initiative. This term, the school has gotten its students and staff to support the Oasis Haven Orphanage, to make an impact on the lives of those in need.

This is not the first time the school has taken part in a charitable initiative. They have a tradition of engaging in initiatives throughout the academic year, with each term dedicated to a new cause. This term, the focus has been on supporting Oasis Haven Orphanage.

Mary-Anne Liebenburg, a dedicated teacher at Blairgowrie Primary School, expressed the importance of empathy and action, stating, “Let’s walk a mile in someone else’s shoes this term. By going the extra mile for charity, we can make a difference.” Liebenberg explained that this was a reflection of the school’s ethos of fostering compassion and kindness among its learners.

To kick-start their fundraising efforts, a school-wide donation drive was launched. Through the drive, the school was about to put together a significant collection of non-perishable goods for Oasis Haven Orphanage. In addition to this, the Mint Mile initiative was launched, with students encouraged to donate coins towards the cause.

Natalia Basiewicz, a learner at the school, said. “It takes courage to care.” Her words explained the bravery and compassion required to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

The Mint Mile initiative aims to symbolically cover the perimeter of the school with donated coins, with a fundraising goal of R10 000 set to directly benefit Oasis Haven Orphanage. Through their collective efforts, the students and staff are determined to make a meaningful difference in the lives of orphaned children.
