Cameras for a safer suburb

The first phase of the Linden Licence Plate Recognition has been completed by installing eight cameras on the streets.

ADT security, the Linden Neighbourhood Watch (LNW) and the Linden police held a braai at the Linden Gereformeerde Kerk in celebration of the completion of phase 1 of the Linden Licence Plate Recognition project.

ADT community support manager Lana O’Neill said eight cameras had been installed in Linden. “This is to monitor licence plates of vehicles as they pass through the neighbourhood. The cameras are linked to the police’s database of stolen and suspicious vehicles and are monitored by the Community Control Centre 24 hours a day.”

The initiative is fully endorsed by the LNW, Linden Community Association and the police.

“The software has been researched and developed by ADT in partnership with Geovision and the technology is considered to be the most advanced in the country”.

The first camera was installed at the end of July. “Since then cameras have captured thousands of licence plates, many of which have been passed onto the police for investigation.

A lot of work lies ahead, but once we’ve completed the project in Linden, the suburb will become a showcase for the technology at ADT sites across the country. And, be assured the net will be very tight for criminals.”
