Trinityhouse Preparatory Randpark Ridge celebrated International Maths Day on recently, where they answered questions and crunched numbers in a fun way.
The Junior phase celebrated “money through the ages”.
This involved pupils decorating themselves and discussing payment methods, such as through the use of cheques, ATMs and internet banking.
Grade 1 pupils came decorated with items used for bartering.
Grade 2s and the Bridging Class pupils accessorized with money notes and coins.
Grade 3s came dressed up with credit cards, ATM machines and cheques.
The Inter-Sen phase conducted a variety of lessons.
Grade 4s were given a packet of sweets to make a tally table which was then converted into a bar graph.
Grade 5s solved complicated toothpick puzzles and many of them brought food representing maths equations.
Grade 6s solved probability problems involving dice, spinners and coins.
Grade 7s solved a crime using maths.
At the end of the day the junior phase gave representatives of CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa a collection of money from the children.
“Our children were delighted knowing their pocket money is going to such a worthy cause,” said Hilton Scott, headmaster for Trinityhouse Preparatory Randpark Ridge.
“We also enjoyed sharing in the worldwide fun of Maths Day. It certainly is a highlight on the annual calender.”
