Only one night with Kenny G

Multi-award winning and talented African jazz musician Selaelo Selota set a great pace for the evening. Selota, who was the opening act for the evening, enthralled the audience. “Things are about to get down, we are gonna have fun,” declared Selota before his very energetic and entertaining performance at the Coca-Cola Dome in North Riding on 20 November.

“Selaelo Selota never disappoints and it’s amazing that with over 20 years experience in the industry he still manages to render this kind of performance. It goes to show that he takes his talent and fans seriously,”said one of his fans, Molaletsi Ndlovu.

Another audience member said he was surprised that a man Selota’s age could shake his body that much, that good.

Grammy-award winning saxophonist Kenny G made a surprise and grand entrance as he began his performance from the floor, among his fans. He performed the first two songs walking around the arena, interacting with the fans.

After getting on stage, audience members went crazy as he showed them that he had a South African flavour with him as he greeted them in Zulu and Afrikaans (and even translated for them into English to show that he understood what he was saying in the two native languages).

“To host Selaelo Selota, one of Africa’s finest musicians, on the same bill as the world famous Kenny G is a coup for jazz lovers,” said promoter, Phala Letsoalo of Canoc Productions.

Award-winning Kenny G’s recording career spans more than three decades with 23 albums produced during that period. The saxophonist treated the audience to his grafted elements of R&B, pop and Latin to a jazz foundation, setting his reputation as the premier artist in contemporary jazz.

The show was presented by Canoc Productions in association with Mzansi Magic Music and 702. Letsoalo added that fans of the two jazz icons had the opportunity to experience the incredible talents of two of the world’s finest musicians at one memorable concert.
