NORTHWOLD – Proud parents receive reports from the new Afrikaans Christian school Baken Akadamie.
Baken Akadamie issued their first round of reports to parents and pupils during a ceremony on 17 April.
Principal Jeni Gericke said at the school in Northwold, that a report is not as scary as it may seem. Gericke commented how each of the children have their own personality and way of performing tasks, talents and weakness which must be considered.
Each pupil had a small presentation of them shown to the guests by the grade teacher. It created a warm and intimate environment where parents, pupils and teachers could discuss the progress made in the past year. School co-founder Jurie Groenewald said, “It is really great to see some of our pupils increasing their marks from 40 per cent to around 80 per cent, it’s really amazing.”
Isolde Barnard, parent to her son in Grade R, said, “He has made a good improvement in the way he has developed. He cannot wait to go to school and even on a Saturday he is begging to go back… It’s amazing to see that the teachers are so phenomenal in their relationship with the children.”
Marina Barnard, mother to Danielle Barnard in Grade 8, said, “She used to be home-schooled and so she was very shy. Now Danielle makes lots of jokes and has new friends. She has proven herself to be more independent.” Other parents commented that they were very happy to see another Afrikaans school in the area that is able to educate their children in their home language, and that the school has stayed on top of global technologies and trends developing in education.
