Mets thrash Red Sox in batting blitz

The Randburg Mets have found their form at just the right time, beating Red Kempton Red Sox 17–6 on Sunday, ahead of this weekend's cup knockout stage.

The Randburg Mets Senior Reserves put together one of their strongest performances of the season on Sunday, beating Red Kempton Red Sox 17–6 in a baseball match that centre fielder John White described as challenging early on, but ultimately rewarding.

White said the Mets always relish facing Red Kempton Red Sox, even when the opposition brings a tough start. “The game on Sunday was challenging because we struggled to adapt to their opening pitcher.”

That difficulty did not last long. Once the Mets settled in, their batting order came alive, with contributions from top to bottom helping them pull away from a well-drilled Red Sox side. White praised the balance in the lineup, saying the whole team played its part. He added that several players, who had been out of form in recent weeks, stepped up when it mattered. “Players who have struggled made good with some great hitting.”

On the mound, Ashley Yon was the standout performer for the Mets, restricting a strong Red Sox batting lineup to only a handful of hits. White credited the infield for backing up that effort with sharp, defensive work throughout the innings. “Ashley pitched really well and held a strong batting team to only a few hits, while his infield supported him, making important catches and fielding really well.”

The result means the Mets have now won their last two matches, a timely improvement after a difficult run through the middle of the season. White said the turnaround could not have come at a better time, with the team heading straight into the cup knockout stage this coming weekend. “The team seems to be back on track after a mid-season slump, just in time for the cup knockouts which start this coming weekend.”

With the league season also drawing to a close, White said the Mets will be looking to carry their current momentum through both competitions. “We have won the last two games and hopefully this will continue for the last few games of the season.”

The Mets will now shift their focus to the knockout rounds, hoping Sunday’s all-round display against Red Kempton Red Sox is a sign of things to come.
